Arcserve 2000 tape throughput
Use this procedure to turn on dummy tape drives to test system
throughput without using a real tape drive (i.e. the maximum speed that could be
expected through network and/or local hard disc speeds):
Stop the Tape engine
Go to Command Prompt ,change the directory to Arcserve
cd program files\ComputerAssociates\Arcserve.
type the following command "simulate -ca"
select the option to add simulation device .
Number of Boards =1
Number of devices to simulate=1
exit
Start the Tape engine
Erase the media on the tape simultation device then ubmit a
backup job to it.
Example access times with Arcserve 2000, Compaq
DL360, dual processor:
DLT40/80 across 100Mbit full duplex - 320Mb/minute
SDLT across 100Mbit full duplex - 300 to 620Mb/minute
SDLT accessing local 7200 rpm SCSI RAID 5 array - 900Mb/minute
Ultrium across 1Gbit full duplex - 900 to 1200Mb/minute
Dummy device over 100Mbit - 620Mb/minute
Dummy device accessing local RAID 5 array - 900Mb/minute Restoring
shares with Arcserve
Restore the following registry key
which holds shares and share permissions: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Shares Alternative
is to restore the winnt\system32\config directory which contains the registry
